The link between business and IT teams

Data solutions that work, and teams that can keep them running.

Independent consultant · Data governance, data quality & MDM · Coaching, training and knowledge transfer

Five missions

Make data governance a shared reflex for business teams: clear roles, coached data owners and data stewards, a reliable catalogue, and data quality that is measured and improved. Each mission below is backed by something I have built or run.

1

Set up data governance

Clear roles, a reliable catalogue and policies that people follow.

  • Roles and responsibilities of Data Owners and Data Stewards (RACI), and the community that runs them
  • Business catalogue and glossary: domains, term hierarchy, shared terms, metadata standards, validation workflow
  • Policies, standards and guidelines: drafting, review, approval, publication and annual review (DAMA-DMBOK)

Proof: a business catalog from open data · a document life cycle application

2

Data quality and solid processes

Data quality that is measured and improved.

  • Quality rules, prioritised by business impact; quality measures and reports
  • Master data and matching: deduplication, identity resolution
  • Coordinating the Data Stewards on improvement projects

Proof: coming early November a quality report on the Statbel files

3

Data products, with AI and BI

A governed data product that BI tools and AI can rely on.

  • Producer / consumer approach: who builds the product, who uses it, what they can expect
  • Use cases and an idea backlog; content KPIs and a dashboard to follow them
  • Access procedures (API or bulk) and documentation, so that the product can be trusted

Proof: the data platform · coming early November a data product on Statbel

4

Programme and project management

Run it myself, or coach your team to run it.

  • Roadmap and annual plan, prioritisation by business value, project review board
  • Scrum (sprints) and Kanban (backlog) in Jira and Confluence
  • Risk and change management, up to adoption

Proof: a project run in Jira and Confluence, with the kit to reuse

5

Coach and train

Transfer the skills, so that the teams carry on on their own.

  • Coaching Data Owners and Data Stewards in their roles and day-to-day decisions
  • Data literacy: trainings, hands-on sessions, demos, practical guides, follow-up of adoption
  • Communication and handling resistance to change; handover documentation

Proof: a training built on a real case · a hands-on teaching tool

Assignments of 3 months or more · All of Belgium, on site or hybrid · French, English, Dutch · Rate on request
